HIS FIRST PROFESSION : ENGRAVER

He is the author of the first copy of stamp 20c he drew on stone. The postponement of the drawing was not been satisfactory, the following stamps were engraved by Yon. Dambourgez nevertheless continued to control and modify the postponements from engravings.

LITHOGRAPHY :
Invented by Aloys Senefelder in 1796 in Germany, the lithography is a printing process which allows creation and the reproduction of several exemplaries of a plan executed with ink or the pencil on a limestone. After a chemical preparation, the fat contained in ink or the pencil (drawing) is fixed on the stone. This technique is more adapted to the pictures printing rather than text. The lithography was introduced in France largely by Louis-François Lejeune who discovered it in the workshop of Senefelder at the time of wars of the Empire.

Various tests are undertaken, Dambourgez, draftsman lithographer, gives a pen-and-ink drawing over stone which is adopted. However the various operations necessary to the manufacture of the stones of impression modify considerably the aspect of the stamps which have only one approximate ressemblace with the original drawing. One then calls upon an artist specialized in engraving on stone, Leopold Yon. It carries out some modifications and simplifies the drawing. In order to save time one chooses to print the new stamps in sheet of 300 specimens.

The coloured dish represents a massive silver plated cut, which marks the progress of art under king de Sassanide. This cut, (which was presented by the Duke of Luynes to the Cabinet of France, where it can be compared with that of Chosroes). The low-relief represents a king of Persia to hunting. The Monarch, whose horse goes at full speed, draws an arrow before that two wild boars and a pig, a buffalo and an antelope runs away. Many victims of the royal hunter are wide on the ground. Its costume is very rich, a diadem is on its head, the invaluable stones decorate its ears, its collar and its double belt, the tunic and the pants are embroidered, like also the harness of the horse, as the arc that is decorated with two flames.
